ALX Interiors recently completed the expansion and renovation of Emily’s, an upscale designer clothing boutique and evening wear salon located on Richmond Rd in the Dongan Hills section of Staten Island. Emily Rassias, the owner and founder of Emily’s, wanted the new space to be not only elegant but open, airy and glamorous with a trendy twist.
Originally, the evening salon was a combination of old world moldings and materials. Although she loved her space and wanted to maintain the same level of uniqueness and sophistication, she was ready for a change.
We presented her with a flowing design plan, a color palette of soft colors, hues of creams and greys accented with a touch of metallics, luscious fabrics and textured wallpapers. The soft creams and greys keep the majority of your focus on the gowns, where it should be. Skillful interior designers are great at drawing attention in retail spaces to the products, using simplistic color palettes and visual elements.
“From the beginning, I believed we connected and you presented me with so many options that I loved!”
Before the re-design
We presented Emily with a few different options for what could be done with her space. We like to present multiple options and give our clients a choice where they can pick and combine different design elements that they relate to.
Here are a few pictures of what the space looked like when we initially went in for a consultation.
Throughout the course of construction, we replaced the floors and created ceiling and lighting designs. We used paint colors, textured wallpapers, and certain design elements that contrasted nicely with each other. We were able to bring greater depth, creating an exciting design dynamic.
A special thank you to Nelson Moreno and AB Capstone for their amazing work throughout the demolition and renovation of the space with our designs in mind.
After the interior design and construction
The completion of the re-design project transformed Emily’s Boutique into something unique, modern, and elegant all at once. You can see for yourself the difference that was made with a little bit of brainstorming, room planning, and interior design expertise.

Interested in interior design for a retail space?
A little design can go a long way and affect your bottom line more than you might expect. This is especially true for retail businesses like Emily’s.
The cost of design and renovation are small in comparison to increases in traffic (and sales) that come from good design. A cohesive vision, color palette, and appearance throughout your space will go a long way. People feel better buying from well-branded businesses, even if just subconsciously.
Aside from interior design, your design aesthetic should flow over into the design of your print media and website, as well.
