With leaves turning and mums popping up around town, now is the time to bring the enjoyment of the autumn into your home.
The fall season is all about color — burnt oranges, yellows, golds and olive greens. These hues create a feeling of warmth inside as the chill in the air outside becomes crisp.
“There are some very simple things you can do to embrace autumn in your home decor. The easiest thing to do is, accessorize,” said Alexandra Fernandez, owner of ALX Interiors. Fernandez says when accessorizing your home for any holiday, the main rules of thumb are placement, proportion, and balance.
Instead of scattering lots of things here and there throughout your home, create groupings, she said. For example, group different size and shape pumpkins or candlesticks of different heights on tables and counters. Many of the items used in the Grymes Hill home were gathered from local shops, as well as items already found in the home.
Another idea would be to visit your local supermarket: Apples, colorful dried Indian corn, bright orange pumpkins, as well as multi-shaped and striped gourds and squash can be grouped or piled high into a glass vase as a fall centerpiece.
You can also bring some of the fall foliage inside and place it in a vase surrounded by acorns and pinecones mixed with items, such as candles and placemats or runners, you already have in your home.
So, instead of mourning the end of summer, why not have fun and welcome the change of the season into your home? After all, it’s not winter yet.
